For archival institutions, librarians and curators, I offer workshops to create best practices for managing sensitive holdings. These sessions include a review of finding aids, a discussion on the ethics of rights and reproduction, and a plan for how your institution can operate as a principled steward of sensitive materials.
We explore the history of acquiring sensitive materials and how to best meet the needs of interest groups who want to work with your archival holdings. By confronting professional practices around collecting, exhibiting and reproducing items with complex histories, leaders can develop a proactive plan to mitigate additional harm while making materials more useful to the public.
Together, we plan the digital, curatorial and pricing imperatives associated with holding and sharing materials that are meaningful to diverse populations. To read more about how I approach some of these questions, see my op-ed in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
